Happy Mother's Day!

A post dedicated to moms.

First up, the best shot (of many bad ones) of the kid holding a sign. Since I was late ordering a gift, and the mailman only checks one of our mailboxes (what do think that flag is for, Mailman Steve??), my mother will not be getting anything physical today. Sorry, mom. I still love you. Hope you can forgive my (few and far-between*) foibles.
So, this is mom related because (a) I am a mom and helped Hazel and (b) my mom taught me how to sew and now I am teaching my kid.

Hazel is loving sewing right now. I wish I had more shots, because the whole process is awesome. First, she drew some pictures of what she wanted the dresses to look like. Then she measured the unicorn (the bunny we just eyeballed). Then she had me cut out a square. I thread the needles and knot the end and Hazel sews. Sometimes I have to work out tangles and I tie it off at the end, but for the most part it is Hazel's handiwork.
The finished product. Could she be any prouder? I think not. The bunny has two arm holes, but the unicorn is rocking the one-shoulder look. They both have tail holes. I think the key to sewing with a preschooler is using easy fabric. Stretchy, forgiving and something that doesn't fray (no hemming!)
And we saw a mama and baby duck.
*ha!
