Hazel's 5th Birthday Party!!

Can you believe my baby is five! FIVE!!!

Hazel wanted a sledding birthday party and she wanted it at Liberty Park. And I am an indulgent mother. However, the weather was not looking good. It was bitter, bitter cold and we were not having reliable snowfall. I was getting a bit worried, but not Hazel. She was sure that we would have a perfect sledding party.

Hazel picked out all the food for the party, including hot cocoa and hot cider. We also had hand warmers and I made fleece hats as party favors. And then didn't take a picture of them. DOH! I made 32 hats. THIRTY-TWO! The hats were quick, the pompoms took forever (thanks to Jenni and Christie, they were finished late on New Year's Eve.). We also had a fire to warm ourselves. But, there was still the worry of not enough snow.

I never should have doubted the Hazel. We had a big snowstorm just before her birthday and then the big day came it was sunny and (slightly) warmer and a beautiful day for a sledding party*.

Hazel decorated these cupcakes.
And helped with these (I also played a part). The Anne and Mom cupcake are so we didn't have to celebrate the grown-up birthday separately. :)
Sledding was awesome!
We had a fairly large turnout and blue, blue skies!

Hazel pronounced it her "best birthday ever!!!"
*Our friends were at dinner with some other friends and another couple at the dinner party mentioned some crazy gringos having a party in the park, "everything cake, balloons, food, don't they know it is winter??" They were happy to report that they were part of those crazy gringos!

I wish we could have come that day. It wasn't so fun being sick!
