Oh wise Internet, I come to you for advice. Hazel has been using the potty fairly consistently for about a month and a half now. Which is fabulous. She is still completely in diapers at night, although she woke up dry this morning.
Here is my problem. Sometimes, she just pees. Like five minutes ago she just lifted up her dress and peed on the floor. A lot. ON THE FLOOR!! Yesterday, she peed on the porch. Saturday she peed in the closet (although, she did come out and tell me that she peed in the closet and when I asked why she said, “Mom, sometimes I need attention.” And then I felt like a bad mom for working all weekend.)
WHY DOES SHE DO THAT?!?!! Except for the closet incident, where she was looking for attention. Why doesn’t she just go to the bathroom?? And how do I stop it?
Also, how do you go about training a kid at night? She is asleep. I am asleep. How does a sleeping person train another sleeping person? Or should I call it good and just keep her in diapers at night? Plus, I had just purchased a case of diapers at Costco like 3 days before she decided she was going to wear panties during the day. And that is a lot of diapers when you are only using one per day (night, really).

I have no potty training advice, sadly. We tried lots of potty training stuff with Sam and got really frustrated so with Owen I just waited until he brought it up. So funny that we tried so hard with Sam and they ended up being the same age when they trained.
I've heard girls train way faster, though so you'll probably get there sooner. And with the nighttime thing, I always just waited until they kept their diaper dry at night for a week and then let them sleep in underwear.
Hope that helps. I'm not very talented at potty training. Maybe someone has better advice?
P.S. Okay, Sam totally used to say "I need attention", too. :p Her peeing in the closet & then saying that totally cracked me up!
I have no good advice on this topic. Helen was pretty easy to potty train. Reed trained Arthur in a day. He would go months without an accident but now that he is 5 and going to the potty isn't the "cool" thing to do anymore, he doesn't want to stop what he is doing and he holds it to long so now he is having accidents. I have been avoiding it with Orson, I guess I am hoping that Reed will work his magic on him again. The night time thing is hard, try Candi's advice. Good luck!
Meadow, you can take your diapers back to Costco (as long as they are not opened), I did the same thing. They don't even need a receipt. Also, I would put Hazel back in Pull Ups. It will probably frusterate her so she will know that she should use the potty. As far as night time, just keep her in pull ups. Some kids are in them until they are way older. I think it comes with age! Good Luck!
This is coming from your lame sis in law but Ben was three when he finally decided to be fully trained. Sam showed him he could pee outside. He had accidents but only cuz he didn't want to stop playing the comp to go, so we only let him play for very short periods of time. With Zoe we thought she would be in diapers forever!!! she had a mind of her own. She had "accidents" until she was 4. Remember that Hazel has a small bladder and needs constant reminders to go. As for the night time thing she will do that on her own time when her bladder is big enough to hold all that pee all night long. That is a long time for her little bladder.
Potty training sucks and every child is different. Zoe told me that she would go potty in the toilet all the time when she turned 4 cuz 4 year olds are big girls and big girls go in the potty.
Well, Ashton was I think three when she had had enough of being in the fabric store and when Jessie said just a few more minutes, she said "I'll pee!" I can't remember if she actually did or just threatened. I do know the lady helped them faster all of a sudden.
It turned around for Sadie when Ray bought her the pink cartoon character toilet seat insert that she carried with her everywhere in her backpack. Famous related statements from her were when asked why she couldn't wipe her own bum, "Because I don't want to get MY hand all gross!" And when her mom asked her when she thought she would start doing that on her own, she replied, "I'm sure I'll do it by the time I'm fifteen!"
Anyway, good luck with it.
Anne
